Political Compass Redux

Dave | March 10, 2009

polcompassWell with all the political changes in the U.S. recently and my reactions to them, I thought it might do to revisit Political Compass.  I’ve taken the quiz now four times.  The first two times I took it  had me at an economic of -1.25 and a social of  -.97.  This was quite a shocker who grew up in a ultra-conservative household, and I simply answered off the cuff.  So the third time I took it was back in 2007, and I really read the questions and thought about them before I answered.  My economic score went to a .25 and my social went to a -1.64.  Not much of a change in all honesty.    My impression of that experience can be had here.

So I just retook the quiz to check where I stand politically now.  And apparently I’m still economically conservative and socially libertarian.  Small government and personal liberty for all.  I thought maybe my political views may have been skewed because of my strong opposition to President Obama.  Good to see that I haven’t changed, just become more vocal.

I would recommend you take the test.  It’s fun and maybe you’ll learn something if you answer the questions honestly.  If you follow the link they’ll ask you to go to the homepage.  Long story short, they don’t store scores, and they don’t collect private info.  Enough said.  If you do take the test, let me know what you think.

BBQ Camp Sauce

Dave | March 10, 2009

This sauce is good as a dipping sauce for fried foods or as a sandwich spread.

1 cup mayo
6 tablespoons (3/8 cup) BBQ sauce (I prefer Brown Sugar Hickory Flavor)
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/4 teaspoons salt

Combine all ingredients thoroughly.  Chill it in the fridge for an hour.  Mix it again before serving.

Spybot S&D Easter Egg

Dave | March 3, 2009

spyboteastereggI’ve been using Spybot S&D for a while now.  To keep a computer clean from spyware and malware, it ranks as second-to-none in my book.  It provides for protection in a number of ways including IE protection, active system protection, and Host File protection.  Then it also does scanning for spyware and malware.  It’s just a great easy to use product. Plus the fact that it’s a full fledge, full-featured product that’s freeware.  Unlike something like Lavasoft’s Ad-aware Free, which is a stripped down version of Lavasoft’s Pro Version.

Well yesterday I was using it and I was trying to shut a bunch of windows, while I was running a Spybot S&D scan, and I clicked the little binoculars by the text “Search & Destroy”.  Up popped a little square window with a “1″ in the upper left corner.  I’m a fan of chess, I like playing every chance I get.  I figured out it was a knights tour puzzle.   Knight’s tours are where you move over the field touching each square only once.  The goal is to hit every square.  As you can see I got 99/100.

I thought I was clever, but I figured if I found it, it was probably already documented, so I searched Google.  Sure enough it’s out there as a known “Easter Egg“.  Yes, well.  I could probably look up the solution to a Knight’s Tour on a 10×10 board, but that would take the fun out of it now wouldn’t it.

If you’re looking for a good anti-spyware, anti-malware utility, download Spybot S&D, and try it out.  Plus get an interesting puzzle to work on while you run your scan.  Play your way to a clean spyware, malware free computer.
