Most Memorable Moment
Dave | March 13, 2009How often do you go through life thinking, “I’ll remember this moment for the rest of my life?” We all have them. Some of them are easy to recognize. Why? Because the moment just hit you so damn hard. Either, the moment drops you to your knees ’cause you hurt so bad or your laughing ’cause it was funny. The moment, that one second, it can take your breath away, it can give you your second wind.
I’ve had a bunch over my lifetime.
- The night my grandmother died. I woke up before the phone rang. Weird moment. I miss her to this day.
- The day my dad told me he would be wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life.
- The day I knew we were pregnant with our son.
- The night I asked my then girlfriend to marry me.
- The day we exchanged our wedding vows.
- The day my son was born.
- The day my mom called to tell me my grandfather was dying.
- The next day on the way up to see my grandfather, and my mom telling me he passed on.
These are the obvious ones. But then there are those ones that are subtle. The ones that sometimes means just as much, but just aren’t as glaringly obvious.
- The first time my son fell asleep on my chest, all 9 lbs, 1 oz of him. His breathing and mine synced. Just something about it.
- The first time we went on family vacation other than to see family. What a time.
- Splashing in liquid sunshine with my family.
- The baseball game I took my son to see.
- The first time my son asked for homework help with Math.
- Sunset over the Colorado Rockies.
- Crossing Donner’s Pass in near white-out conditions. Terrifying but memorable.
Some memorable moments just mean family. Others mean personal achievement, or just getting out the other side alive. It’s not always a straightforward meaning, that’s what’s so cool about it. The memories, the meanings to you. Just remember that life is too short to take too seriously, and in the end you don’t get out alive. What are your most memorable moments?
