Don’t Waste Your Vote
Dave | September 14, 2008I’ve heard more than one person say that voting for anyone outside of the Democratic or Republican Parties was basically throwing away your vote because no individual Third Party can win.
I’ve heard more than one person saying they were voting Democratic or Republican because it is the lesser of the two evils presented, whether they saw the Democratic or Republican parties as the bigger threat.
So from what I see from these two statements is that there are quite a view people who are going to vote for either party, not because they necessarily agree with whom they are voting for, but because they see the opposite choice as a bigger threat. And that’s fine as far as it goes.
But if there are a bunch of people doing this, doesn’t it follow that those voting for the lesser of two evils are cancelling out each other’s votes? So you got one person voting Democrat (lesser evil in their opinion) and one voting Republican (lesser evil in their opinion); their votes cancel each other. And this will happen over and over and over again on Election Day.
Talk about throwing away your vote. Voting not for the good of the country but the lesser of two evils.
What I have said is that voting for third party candidates won’t guarantee a third party win, because it won’t. At this point, it just isn’t feasible, or plausible. What it does do is send a message, that we the people aren’t real happy with the situation in Washington, and we want options.
What I would propose is this if you are a “lesser of two evils” voter
Find someone who is your opposite “lesser of two evils” voters. Your votes are going to cancel each other out. They count for nothing. Yes the Democratic/Republican numbers go up by one on each side which means two votes wasted.
Agree to not cast your vote for either of your “Lesser of Two Evils” candidate. Instead….
Do some research and find a third party and it’s candidate that you actually agree with more than you do the “Lesser of Two Evils” candidate you were going to vote for. The “major” candidates can be found at VoteSmart.org. All the candidates can be found at this page on VoteSmart.org.
Vote for a Third Party Candidate that actually represents you. I don’t care who it is, just vote for someone who represents what you actually believe.
What will happen?
Obviously either Obama or McCain will win. No surprise. So you’re saying “Why bother?”
My answer: Because if enough people do this, it will send a message to Washington. That message: We, the people, want more choice, we want our government to be ours not the Democrats or Republican parties. We want REAL CHANGE, not the Democrats or Republicans version of change just to stay in power.

Hello Dave:
Thought I’d write a hello, and thank you about your blog on ‘Don’t waste Your Vote’
I would like to attribute the thoughts to your page, and have others read it, however, I was not sure of the process Involved. (Copyright and All), so I thought ahead and decided to leap ahead and ASK the question.
Would you consider having the webpage posted in other links and having other persons read YOUR thoughts as they are posted.
Currently, there was a link to your page, however, itappears to be obliterated from the WordPress Blogs, from 2008-09-18, called ‘The 545…”.
the reference may have been removed for a variety of reasons, but alas the link to your page was left open on Wikipedia, the source where I found your page.
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother-in-law.
Please let me know if there is any special wording that you wish to be acknowledged by in my citation. Thanks,

@Richard R: Feel free to link away Richard. If you want to put a citation that’s great, nothing derogatory please. I’m just one of many who feel that America’s government is bloated and non-responsive to its citizenry. I also feel that most citizen have forgotten their duty to their country (not their government) and what that honestly means. I’m not liberal, I’m not conservative, I am a Constitutionalist (not a member of the Constitution Party).
You’re right about the 545 article. I did take it down. But I emailed you a text document of the backup I had here. It’s still got all the XML included and the PDFs and image scans links don’t work, but if you want to read it feel free. I hate when people misuse an author.
