Doing Windows OSes Your Way

As Microsoft Windows continues to expand as an OS, there are those of us who actively want to trim XP and Vista back.  Doing so by hand can be trying to say the least.  But what if there was a way to actually modify the installation of Vista or XP so that programs like Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express MSN Explorer or Messenger so that they never installed?  Or what about adding replacements right at the time of installation, customer drivers, etc.

Thanks to Dino Nuhagic you can do just that.  with Nlite (for XP) and Vlite (for Vista) you can create custom ISOs which lets make custom install CDs for these OSes so you can have XP/Vista without the programs you don’t want.  Check the respective websites for more info.

The Importance of A Good Education

Please watch the above video and then read.

I am constantly trying to convince parents around me to take control for their child’s education.  The public school system that we dealt with in the past is a failure.  Which is why we decided to homeschool our son and also use a learning center to further his education.

I was reminded why we yanked our son out of the public school system after viewing that video.

  1. The system here is myopic and focused on statewide results.  Don’t bother mentioning nationwide or worldwide.
  2. The system here is more concerned with AYP numbers than with an actual quality education for it’s students.  If they were actually concerned with quality education the AYP numbers would improve.
  3. The system here has no logical concept of global economics, or the global job market and the competition for jobs that their students will have to face.
  4. Too many parents in this system think the schools are babysitters and don’t take an active interest in the system or the education provided.

Thank God we are out of public schools.
