DiNovo Media Desktop

Product Homepage
Logitech did it right with this keyboard in my opinion. Not only does it have style but it is simple to use and easy to setup.

The diNovo comes in two flavors the Media Desktop (Bluetooth) and the Cordless Desktop (USB wireless) . I chose the Media Desktop for several reasons.

1. I needed a Bluetooth hub for several other bluetooth devices that were waiting for their connection. The Media Desktop provided this.

2. I wanted a charger for my wireless mouse. I didn’t want to have to swap rechargeable batteries in/out of the mouse every time I needed to use it.

3. I wanted something that looked nice. I’m using the DiNovo in a public setting and wanted a well crafted keyboard/mouse and in this case mediapad combo.

4. When listening to music etc, I didn’t wish to have my monitor running. With the Media Pad I can control my tunes without looking at a monitor, and I can see what I’m listening to.

Setup was easy. Follow the instructions. I will recommend that if you have a software firewall enabled that you have another keyboard plugged in to get past those security prompts. Remember Bluetooth is a radio service, and it must act as a server, as such it will tweak that firewall. Luckily I had another keyboard available. Not to much of a hassle. And honestly it was an oversight on my part.

Once setup was complete, it’s a breeze to use. Just like any other keyboard. The Media Pad is what really sets this unit apart. If you like to control your music while listening but don’t want to drag your whole keyboard around and don’t want to look at the monitor no problem. Just take the Media Pad along with you. It will display current info on the media you are viewing or listening to and will allow you to control it also. So changed the tunes etc. The Media Pad is there to serve.

Another nice feature, it monitors your email while you do other things. It also acts as a calculator, and can monitor IMs. Not too pad for a 10-key pad.

The keys overall have a solid feel and that familar click. The keyboard with it’s shortcut keys is customizable through the included software to use your favorite programs.

The mouse is Logitech’s MX 900 Bluetooth Optical. Has two thumb buttons to go back and forward within your page history and also up/down buttons near the scroll wheel to scroll with ease. And then there’s the Quick Task Switch button. Just pick your task. This mouse will take you there.

All in all a very impressive package. Unlike other cordless keyboards I’ve seen this keyboard combo is nicely presented and looks good even in a living room or family room. Logitech’s retail price of $249 in my opinion is steep, but this keyboard cmbo can be had for $148.00 if one searches carefully enough.
